Sheet Metal of Honor Award Recipient
Some careers leave a mark that lasts far beyond the years spent on the job. For Mike Nuber, a man whose professional life has been shaped by hard work, humility, and devotion to his craft, that legacy is unmistakable. This year, SMART Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 49 proudly honors Mike as a 2nd Annual Sheet Metal of Honor Award recipient, recognizing a lifetime spent lifting the trade and the people within it.
Mike entered the sheet metal industry in 1986, eager to learn and ready to contribute. From residential installation to his role as a Residential Shop Foreman, he built his skills the way true craftsmen do, one step at a time. He mastered CNC operations, earned his EPA certification, and expanded his abilities as a service technician. Every new skill was another example of his steady commitment to excellence.
By the time he completed his Journeyman Equivalency in 1995, Mike had already established himself as a dependable and highly skilled tradesman. Over the next decade, he brought that expertise to commercial, industrial, and powerhouse projects, always leading with integrity and pride in his work.
In January 2006, Mike transferred from Local 268 to Local 49, a move that marked the beginning of a new chapter of service and leadership. As soon as he was eligible, he stepped forward to run for office, offering his time, experience, and heart to the members he proudly represented. Over the next 15 years, he served as Warden, Trustee, Executive Board member, and Benchmark Certified Estimator, consistently giving more than what was asked.
When Mike retired in 2021, he closed the chapter on an extraordinary career but left behind a legacy that continues to shape Local 49. His craftsmanship, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to his union family live on in every member he inspired.
